On March 5, 2018, Fairmont Austin officially opened to the public, just in time to welcome guests in town for the SXSW Festival. dwg. is extremely proud to have served as the landscape architect on this project and we are delighted to celebrate the opening of this luxury hotel.
At the heart of the vibrant Central Business District, Fairmont Austin is uniquely situated alongside the lush greenery of Palm Park and Waller Creek.
dwg.’s scope included the design of the entry and streetscape elements, which tie in closely with the Waller Creek redevelopment and invite natural features into the hotel. dwg. designed the seventh floor amenity deck that includes a pool, event venue and bar, as well as a series of outdoor rooms and exceptional views. Fairmont also includes a direct aerial canopy walk to the Convention center, designed by Thomas Phifer and Partners.
Rising to 37-stories, the hotel boasts 1,048 richly appointed guest rooms, five restaurants and bars, nearly 140,000 SF of event space, direct access to the Austin Convention Center and a full service spa.
The addition of Fairmont in downtown Austin allows the city the ability to host larger conferences and conventions and bring additional tourism to the city. Officially the largest hotel in Austin, Fairmont adds a new dimension to the downtown skyline, becoming the second tallest building in the city.
