Alpha West is a 14-acre mixed-use development in North Dallas comprised of multifamily, an Aloft hotel, structured parking, retail and office uses that are focused around a series of meaningful open spaces including courtyards, plazas and a central green. Formerly a brownfield site, the resulting urban infill development exemplifies an urban lifestyle, with a commitment to design excellence and environmental resiliency. The project exemplifies innovation, urban design and green infrastructure.

dwg. is providing master planning and landscape architecture services in close coordination with the project architects. Our scope includes public plazas, lawn spaces, courtyards and amphitheaters in addition to roof decks. Pedestrian priority is amplified by designing slimmed driveways and streets inspired by the Dutch "woonerf" road design. These streetscapes feature enhanced paver streets, flush curbs, limited street parking, narrower street profiles and an emphasis on wider, more active and programmed sidewalks. The project promotes innovative water quality strategies, utilizing ran gardens to treat and clean runoff water as well as AC condensate and rainwater capture techniques for irrigation and water features.

The public open spaces will be activated by a variety of programming, to support uses that appeals to all age groups. Additionally, strategic lighting details play a vital role in the character of the open spaces. The resulting design creates a dynamic environment that performs at all times of day and night while enhancing the sense of place and conserving energy.
