From Parking Lot to Campus Gateway
Fontaine Plaza, at Austin Community College's Highland Campus, was featured in the Landscape Architecture Specifier News June edition.
Fontaine Plaza is the gateway to a reinvigorated campus exemplifying adaptive reuse. Formerly the entrance to the expanse of asphalt parking built to serve the 1970s-era Highland Mall, the plaza welcomes students and visitors into a series of pedestrian-oriented outdoor rooms in a space once dominated by vehicular traffic. Now a vibrant mixed-use development anchored by Austin Community College, the design projects a vision for the future grounded in environmental sustainability and social equity.
