merchant ice redevelopment

san antonio, texas

dwg. is serving as the landscape architect for the adaptive reuse of the Merchant Ice plant on Houston Street, just east of downtown San Antonio. Lead by the Texas Research and Technology Foundation (TRTF), the project seeks to create an integrated live, work and play complex incorporating a multi-building innovation center, an outdoor plaza, a boutique hotel, an event center, office and lab space as well as residential apartments. The innovation center will focus on bioscience, cybersecurity and emerging technology companies.

The site consists of five buildings across five acres connected by common open space, plazas and pedestrian walkways. The project will also incorporate a series of green roofs across several of the buildings. The Merchant Ice redevelopment is focused on making a positive impact on the surrounding community and is adhering to a sustainable and environmentally-sensitive approach.

dwg. worked with Lake Flato to create the landscape master plan. We are currently working with the client and Thorn Graves Architects to design and implement Phase I of the project.
